MileageMate: Trip Tracker is now available
Logging business mileage after a long clinical shift is an irritating job. It is also easy to forget, particularly after travelling between several client sites.
Why accurate records matter
Missing journeys can mean missing legitimate expense reimbursements or tax relief. Reconstructing them days later from calendars and receipts takes time and can introduce mistakes. I wanted trip logging to be quick enough to do at the time, without making constant location tracking the price of convenience.
Built from experience on the road
MileageMate grew from my own frustration with this routine. I combined hands-on shift experience with my background in computational intelligence and mobile software architecture to build a practical alternative.
MileageMate: Trip Tracker is now officially available on the Google Play Store.
The app is designed around a few clear principles:
- local-first storage, rather than central cloud server storage;
- low battery use, with no requirement for 24/7 location tracking;
- multi-stop journey tracking for work across several sites; and
- automatic tax-tier calculations to reduce manual checking.
What comes next
This blog will contain practical guides to regional mileage rates, tax rules and better trip management. The aim is straightforward: to make accurate mileage records less of a burden for people already doing demanding work.
